As requested by my sister, here is my very short list on keeping an organized freezer.
I previously mentioned that I live in an apartment. Well, apparently one of the previous tenants removed the shelf from my freezer – assuming it had one to begin with. When you have a big open space, trying to keep lots of little things in it in order can be a challenge. Here’s a simple solution, use a wire shelf designed to hold dishes in the cabinets – it’s sturdy and won’t wear out in the freezer. (I got mine at the Home Depot for less than $10 for a set of 2. You can also find them at the Container Store and, most likely, Walmart or Target.) Then you have 2 levels to keep things organized. If you have a self defrosting freezer (most people do) then you want to be sure to keep flat things flat and top-side up so that if things get a little soft not everything runs to the lid or one end of the container. So I stacked my frozen pizzas on top of the shelf, and put the less stackable bags of frozen veggies underneath it.

I don’t have a lot of tricks for the freezer door, but that’s where I keep my ice packs & 2 large mugs always ready for a frosty beer (or beverage of your choice). You should be aware that the stuff in the door is the most subjected to temperature changes, so if you keep popsicles here you might find them getting stuck to the wrapper after a short time.
Takeaways for keeping your freezer organized:
- Use a shelf to divide your freezer space into 2 zones.
- Keep a couple of glass mugs in the freezer door so you always have a frosty mug for your favorite beverage.
