My husband and I recently bought a house, so I have been slowly tackling new projects, and today I decided to take on our tiny 5’x5′ laundry room. I say tiny, though I guess it could be smaller… At least it is a whole room!
Anyway, here’s what it looked like before:

Just enough room for the washer and dryer, and to be able to open the door and walk in. That’s it. If you put anything else on the floor you’d trip over it.
But with just 90 minutes and $53 worth of closet shelving, I was able to transform it into this:

I installed 4 shelves and a few hooks, and voila! Isn’t that better? Now there’s room to place the laundry basket on top of the dryer, plus I can see that I don’t need any more disposable duster refills for a while. Before, everything was so jumbled that I couldn’t take stock of what I had, but now I can do that at a glance.
Here are some additional features that I had already added to the laundry room when we first moved in.

A broom/mop wall mounted rack to keep them off the floor.

An over the door towel rack for hanging delicates (or in this case towels) to dry.

A plastic grocery bag holder/dispenser. This is a great spot since our laundry room is right off the kitchen.

And, finally, an ironing board hanger.
Additional tools you’ll need to install these things are:
A drill
Drywall anchors
Screws
A hammer
A screwdriver
A level
A measuring tape
Happy laundry day!
