Easy gift wrap storage

It’s almost Christmas, the lights and decorations are coming out, sparkling trees are going up, and now it’s time to wrap all those gifts you bought months in advance. What? You aren’t done with your shopping yet? That’s ok, neither am I. But to avoid a last minute wrapping crisis, now might be a good time to take an inventory on your gift wrapping supplies!

I have seen a number of fancy storage solutions on Pinterest, but most of them involve hanging dowels for your ribbon, multiple racks for your paper, and a dedicated space to hold it all. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have an extra closet I can dedicate to wrapping presents. So here is a simple solution: an under-bed box. That’s it! All you really need is one long box to put all those wrapping paper rolls in. Slide it under the bed for the 364 days of the year you won’t be using it, but always know exactly where it is.

Of course, if you want to take your storage to the next level, here are some additional tips:

  • Buy an extra pair of scissors and a roll of invisible tape to keep with your wrapping paper.
  • Buy wrapping paper on sale after the holidays for next year.
  • Pick up some generic patterned paper that can be used for multiple occasions: birthdays, baby showers, weddings, etc.
  • Avoid prints that you might only use once, such as over-the-hill or that-hot-new-kids-movie designs.
  • Buy a few rolls of curling ribbon in basic colors to keep with the wrapping supplies: pink, blue, red, green & white.
  • Also buy an assortment of gift bags and tissue paper for those hard-to-wrap gifts.

There you have it, gift wrap for all occasions, and everything in one place. If you want to be super organized (optional) you can even use smaller boxes within the under-bed box to hold the little things. The Container Store has one ready to go on their website.

Happy wrapping!

  1. I need more under-bed space! Any suggestions for that? 😉
I like your tip on not getting “theme” wrapping paper. When I find a classic print that I like I stock up on rolls and then just use colored ribbon to match the holiday!

  2. Another great idea on storage – especially for those that don’t have under-bed space (such as Emily) –

In a closet, secure wire (could be strong string, but wire will probably work better) about 3 or so inches from the ceiling, running from one side to the other side. You’ll need at least two, but I’d probably do three strands of wire across. Then, you just slide the tubes of wrapping paper on top!

Reading that, it makes little sense! Here’s the picture which is pretty self-explanatory and the lifehacker post about it – http://lifehacker.com/5870974/hang-wrapping-paper-rolls-in-a-closet-ceiling
